The RAW house was a major addition and alteration where we served as the turnkey team who designed, constructed and fabricated all components of the project.
Our design utilises a restrained and raw material palette of; timber shuttered concrete, burmog mahogany, variably treated steel and a muted colour palette were applied to modernize an ageing and mundane building, adapting the space into a contemporary home with a seamless flow between the interior and exterior entertainment areas. A rim flow pool connects with the entertainment area through use of a polished concrete floor, which forms the hard landscape and contains the garden.
A translucent light steel pavilion, equipped with a braai area and an outdoor shower tucked behind a mahogany screen, is at the deep end of the pool.
9 commissioned laser-cut light installation artworks, which depict different views of Johannesburg, are placed along the driveway and front boundary to bring life to otherwise dreary walls.
