Dealing with Johannesburg’s paranoia around surveillance, security and safety the loop creates a conversation that exposes these traits within the park landscape of the Wemmerpan dam. This eerie digital representation acts as a conceptual piece that portrays these underlying insecurities.

The loop is designed as a 1km running loop, which incorporates recreational facilities for skating, gathering, cooking, walking, boating and running. The loop is heavily adorned with lighting, cameras and live-time CCTV screens to create a feeling of safety but also of being watched constantly.

The structure manipulates the ground plane to create a variety of spatial experiences. It hovers over the old barracks, dips underground and into the water, hovers on the water and ramps up and down to complete the loop.
