The ZAM Housing project, designed in collaboration with architect Nico van Loggerenberg from ANVL works, took a small corner site in Melville and created an efficient and high yield housing model that responds to the local housing needs. The block is made up of a combination of bachelor, one-bedroom and two-bed-room units, with a sub-basement parking level and a social roof terrace.

The first level of accommodation spills onto a courtyard enclosed by the mass of the block so that children can play safely whilst being easily monitored by parents who have direct vantage from the central circulation.

The west facing façade has been treated with deep balconies and alternating timber screens which shade the units whilst allowing views of the koppies to the west.
