This final light and steel installation are a tribute to the city which has raised us, Johannesburg. Through a process of intense drawing and fabrication we produced 9 scenes of our gritty and beautiful inner-city spaces. .

Line drawings of each scene were transferred into digital drawings where we created negative spaces mapped on the lights of the city at night. This was then laser cut into each steel panel to reveal an etched drawing of the urban landscapes.

The panels were the mounted onto frames and backlit to reveal the city lights at night, whilst they are less obvious etchings during the day on naturally ageing steel. These panels can be replicated at different scales as drawings and installations.
